Tips on how to make your
flowers last longer...
Top up regularly.  Water is taken up at a surprisingly high rate, so it
is usually necessary to top up the vase.  Change the water in the
vase when it becomes cloudy and re-cut your stems.
Use a cut flower preservative.  We give you a packet with your
flowers.  You can also use a small amount of household bleach in
your vase.  It will help to kill the bacteria which contaminate the
water and attack the ends of the cut stems.  Our packets  of flower
food contain sugar and a bacteriocide.
Protect from heat and drought.  Droughts cause excessive
moisture loss, but are not as harmful as overheating.  Keep your
arrangement away from direct sunlight, radiators and open fires.
Keep away from fruit.  Do not place your arrangement close to a
bowl of fruit.  Apples, pears etc emit ethylene- a gas which
accelerates the ripening of flowers.
Mist occasionally.  apply a mist-like spray above and around the
arrangement..  This should be done regularly if the air is hot and dry.
Do not spray close to delicate petals which may be damaged by
water droplets.
Dead head when necessary. The vase life  one flower may be quite
different from another species.  Remove dead blooms promptly so
that the display can continue to look attractive for several more days.

Tips on Arranging your
flowers...
If you don't have a vase, there are many different things around the
house you can use instead.  Wine & Liquor & Oil bottles come in
many different shapes.  Choose flowers with large heads, such as
sunflowers, peonies or lilies.  Line them up along your mantel,  or
counter top, for instant glamour.
Teapots, teacups, pitchers, tumbles, wine glasses and jam jars  can
also be used to display flowers.  With small containers like teacups,
cut the flower stems short, and let them "float" in the container.  For
bigger containers, mass your flowers in separate colors, for high
style.  Or fill with interesting foliage for a rustic feel.  You can also
non water proof containers, such as baskets, by putting a glass jar
inside.
Jazz up your old vases or any container you are using with ribbon.
Ribbons come in many colors and sizes.  Tie around the top or
middle of your containers. You can always save your ribbons and
reuse them this way.
Add another element to your arrangement by adding colour to your
vase.  You can fill the bottom of a clear vase with pebbles or
marbles.  You can also slice of some lemons or limes.  They look
fantastic with bright colored arrangements.
There are basically three ways of putting colors together in a
harmonious way.  You can use contrasting colors(orange & blue,
purple & green, etc.), analogous colors(colors next to each other on
the color wheel) and the most subtly was is to use tints and shades
of one hue.
